Ensuring a shipshape debut
A contemporary hospitality venue captures its inspiration from a hyperlocal connection to a boat-building legacy.
Farm-to-table dining is of the moment, but how do you make it historic, too? When the Main Deck opened in 2022 on New York's Keuka Lake, the owners of the modern restaurant, bar, and music destination wanted to pay tribute to their family's connection to the area's past. They looked to the Penn Yan Boat Company. Luckily, they didn't have to look too far. The legendary builders of power watercrafts were located just a few hundred yards from the Main Deck's location. Penn Yan is credited with invention of Tunnel Drive technology, a propulsion system uniquely designed for shallow waters like those found in areas of the Finger Lakes.
When it came time to develop the graphics concept, Heather DeMoras Design Consultant's first call was to longtime collaborator Takeform. And with our own speedboat-inspired momentum, Takeform designed, manufactured and installed themed graphics throughout the refined waterfront venue in just three months.
A cherished familial connection became an experiential graphics package capturing Penn Yan's boat-building history. Supplied with hundreds of decades-old blueprints, marketing materials and imagery as raw material, we created a refined destination that floated effortlessly between history-infused and contemporary.

Capabilities
Field Surveying
The key to design accuracy and installation perfection in possessing accurate data for the space. Before design begins, our field service team collects critical dimensions and insights for every wall, and in this case, every ceiling. With those measurements two essential things can happen: our designers can perfectly position every element and our installation team doesn't encounter project-slowing surprises.
Experiential Graphic Design
Our senior designers collaborated closely with Heather Demoras Design Consultants and Main Deck ownership to bring their unique vision throughout the space. Archival imagery was deftly translated to a broad range of experiential graphics. Patrons immerse into themed yet sophisticated environments across three different dining experiences – each seaworthy and each with its own curated vibe.
Prepress/Imaging
Prepress and image processing were critical to creating authentic and scaled-up reproductions of Penn Yan Boat's vintage photos, illustrations and engineering documents.
Printing
From custom wallcovering to graphic and acoustic panels, the project involved a diverse range of substrates. Achieving image consistency across these varied materials requires a discerning eye, technical expertise and advanced print technology.
Manufacturing
The Main Deck is a celebration of one family's commitment to history and one company's exceptional design and craftmanship. Every detail of the graphics system had to live up to those exacting standards – beautiful finishes, pristine edges, and flawless construction was essential to each component.
Products
Custom graphic panels | Moxie
Used throughout the Main Deck environment to display a wide range of custom graphics, Moxie creates a dynamic collage of vintage marketing imagery. It's ideal for hospitality spaces and other high-traffic areas thanks to a combination of precision imaging quality and its durable, easy-to-clean finish. The printed panels are installed with standoff hardware of varying depths to add gallery-like dimensional interest.
Acoustic wall panels | Oomph
Oomph can improve acoustics while delivering engaging visuals. In sound-challenged spaces such as the Main Deck's basement bar and live music venue, Oomph provides noise mitigation in this otherwise hard-surfaced space. But Oomph – engineered to deliver exceptional custom direct-print graphics –is also about visual impact. For the Main Deck, Oomph wall panels did their thing with energetic archival images, delivering the subtle visual detail of these blueprint images. The material's felt finish adds a refined texture to images adorning the formal dining room. Thanks to Oomph, the artwork also helps improve the room's acoustics during livelier gatherings.
Custom wallcovering | Amplify
Our design and imaging team translated original engineers' drawings to a larger-than-life pattern. The pattern envelops the formal dining room – not only on walls but on the ceiling, too – effectively surrounding patrons in themed imagery. Amplify Mystical provided a subtle texture simulating the original paper without interfering with the realistic reproduction of the drawings' fine detail. Amplify Mystical also transformed the foyer's ceiling into a historic map of the Finger Lakes region, welcoming guests and previewing the visually immersive space they are about to experience.
Signage | Vivid
Using our image-intense signage platform, Vivid, the graphic-based signage platform helped create this decidedly contemporary sign concept. Subtle visual textures and modern graphics are combined in this fresh custom solution to contrast the theme's historic vibe and to enhance the contemporary décor.
